<p>The Riverside Walk is a beloved and popular choice for those who have a young family or want to experience Zion without a strenuous hiking experience. Reaching this trail is simple and easy. You will board the shuttle that conveniently stops near the Driftwood Lodge and ride it until the final stop located at the Temple of Sinawava. At the trailhead, you will find restrooms and a water-filling station so that you can hike in safety and comfort. The Riverside Walk is also the starting point of the Narrows trail that goes deeper into the canyon.</p>
<p>There is a paved trail that follows the Virgin River through the canyon, opening up to gorgeous views and lush foliage. It is a notably green and beautiful part of the canyon due to the weeping walls providing moisture for ferns and trees to flourish. You may also see chipmunks, squirrels, birds, and other common wildlife found in the area, adding to the experience.</p>
<p>The hike is approximately two miles round trip and typically takes around one or two hours, depending upon the speed you would like to go. There are some minor drop-offs along the trail, so those using wheelchairs may need assistance in these areas. The end of the hike opens to the mouth of the Narrows. There you can continue in the canyon, or take some time to play in the Virgin River&rsquo;s waters before turning around.</p>

<p>No, we&rsquo;re not talking about a great sandwich place, but about The Subway at Zion National Park. This hike is difficult, but well worth every step to this breathtaking destination. Along the way, you will see numerous cascades, waterfalls, and emerald pools. The Left Fork Trailhead is about 20 miles north of The Driftwood Lodge in Springdale. Once at the parking lot, you will need to hike down to the Left Fork of North Creek where the trail to The Subway actually starts.</p>
<p>This hike is roughly 8 miles and can take anywhere from 5 to 9 hours. Having snacks and water is a must along with water shoes as there are many opportunities to get your feet wet. The National Park Service only allows 80 people to hike The Subway every day and requires you to have a wilderness permit. You can learn more about these permits at the park&rsquo;s visitor center.</p>

<p>Plenty of wildlife occupy the Springdale area. In fact, there are over 60 species of mammals that can be seen in plain sight. Keep in mind that a fair amount of them are nocturnal, so you&rsquo;ll have to stay up late to see them. The reason for this is that because of their fur, they don&rsquo;t want to deal with the dry Springdale heat. Even though most of them are night owls (not literally), you&rsquo;ll see mammals in the daytime such as:</p>
<p>Mule Deer and Rock Squirrels: These are two of the most common sightings among the animals around Driftwood Lodge. While mule deer aren&rsquo;t really anything special compared to your standard deer, rock squirrels are a little different. They actually prefer being on rocky terrain, which isn&rsquo;t something you&rsquo;d think of when it comes to squirrels. Even weirder, you&rsquo;ll see them mostly along the Riverside Way because of their preference of being in rocky terrains.</p>
<p>In fact, most of the wildlife you&rsquo;ll see in the daytime will be ones you&rsquo;ll see close to the river. Animals like the aforementioned rock squirrels, mule deer, bighorn sheep, foxes, and bats among others.</p>
<p>As for the ones that are up and at &lsquo;em during the nighttime, there are ones like:</p>
<p>Ringtail Cats and Mountain Lions: These are among the more prevalent nocturnal animals around the area. Ringtail cats basically look like the lovechild of your normal and a raccoon, which is what makes the rare sight of them one to behold. Mountain Lions are ones that you probably should avoid. They aren&rsquo;t that common unless you are traveling to the highest points in Zion. These are the more well-known mammals in the area including badgers, bobcats, and raccoons.</p>
<p>As cool as it is that a fair amount of these animals come out around nighttime, some rather unpleasant ones are out that would be cool to see but are ones that we advise that you not interact with, like porcupines and skunks. In general, it may not be the best idea to get too close to the animals, but it&rsquo;s pretty cool to see them right?</p>

<p>We are proud to share that we have offered this service to visitors in the area as a recent upgrade during the summer of 2022.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Our charging station is located on the south side of the property directly behind our shuttle stop.&nbsp;</p>
<p>For guests who would like to be closest to the charging area, you can request to be in one of the rooms we have in our Angels Landing building.&nbsp;</p>
<p>We offer a Type 1 charger with an SAE J1772 adapter, which is useful for Tesla models as well as other alternative electric vehicle options on the road.&nbsp;</p>
<p>To use the charging area at Driftwood Lodge, there is a $1 per hour parking fee from 10 am-4 pm. To use the station, it costs 70 cents per KWH during daytime use and decreases to 60 cents per KW from 9 pm-6 am.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Payments can be made by following the instructions at the charging station.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Recharging is a great benefit to have available before going through the park highway to the Zion tunnel, all the way to Bryce Canyon, or to Las Vegas and beyond.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Typical charging speeds can range from 4-8 hours depending on your battery needs, with optimal charging hours being overnight from 9 pm-6 am.</p>
